ong Term Care insurance provides for assistance provided by caregivers when you are unable to perform tasks of daily living. Where health and disability insurance provides for diagnosis and treatment, long-term care pays for the assistance of others and may also cover some home modifications to make daily living safe and enjoyable.

Many people are under the mistaken believe that assisted living facilities will provide any assistance needed. While these senior living facilities do provide housing, food, and activities, additional care with tasks of daily living are usually provided at the patient expense.

Each policy can provide for payment of different items including assistance with simple activities to skilled care provided by nurses, therapists, and other professionals. Simple daily activities include:

  • Bathing
  • Transitioning
  • Toileting
  • Eating
  • Getting dressed

The challenges are that you can’t predict your long-term care needs, but Universal1st can assist you in choosing the best policy with the most options. Depending on the policy options you select, you may be able to receive care while in your home or at an assisted living facility or a nursing home. The policy might also for adult day care, care coordination, and other services.

Keep in mind that the price of your long-term care policy will be higher if you wait to purchase than if you purchase while younger. And under some circumstances, you may be unable to qualify for long-term care insurance if you are sick or ill at that time of purchase. The best time to begin planning for later life care is while you are young and healthy.
